For more than a quarter of a century, Donata von Preußen was the voice of the Holsteiner horse—intelligent, knowledgeable and always with a keen sense for both people and horses. As editor-in-chief at RathmannVerlag, she shaped the magazine PFERD+SPORT, and in close cooperation with the Holsteiner Verband as press officer, she accompanied the highs and lows of breeding history, reporting with sound expertise, commenting in a differentiated manner and always remaining one thing: independent in her judgement and loyal in her dealings.

Her journalistic stance was characterised by integrity and great hippological expertise. Colleagues appreciated her composure, her stylistic elegance and the courage to address contentious topics clearly without ever being hurtful. This trust opened doors—to breeders, riders and officials, thus making her the chronicler of an entire era.

Unforgettable remain her encounters with defining personalities of Holsteiner history such as Fritz Thiedemann, as well as her reports from Olympic Games and World Equestrian Games. A highlight for her was reporting on the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, when Hinrich Romeike won team and individual gold with the Holsteiner Marius.

Donata von Preußen was honored on numerous occasions for her extraordinary commitment, including with the Meteor Award of the Holsteiner Masters and the Golden Badge of Honour of the Holsteiner Verband. These awards recognised not only her journalistic achievement, but also her deep attachment to Holsteiner breeding, for which thanks and lasting recognition are due.

Now Donata von Preußen has passed away at the age of 73. The sympathy and condolences of the Holsteiner Verband go out to her family.
