Holstein Global
The Holsteiner Verband has expanded its breeding programme to enable breeders of Thoroughbred and Anglo-Arabian horses to enter Holsteiner breeding. Both mares and stallions of the Thoroughbred and Anglo-Arabian breeds approved within the Holsteiner Verband's breeding programme can be entered in the studbook of the Holsteiner Verband, and their progeny may participate in the Holsteiner breeding programme.
Holstein Global Stud Book
If the mare is registered with a breeding association affiliated to the WBFSH and belongs to a breed listed in the Holsteiner Verband’s breeding programme, she may be presented for registration in the Holstein Global Stud Book. Registration is available at collection points in Schleswig-Holstein, throughout Germany and abroad.
Offspring of these mares
The offspring of these mares – in other words, the next generation – are entered into the Holsteiner Verband’s Foal Register. However, there is one prerequisite for this: they must be sired by a stallion registered in the Holsteiner Verband’s Stallion Register I. The foals are issued with a Holsteiner Certificate of Pedigree I. Foals registered in this way can be entered into the Mares’ Stud Book I as three-year-old mares, and the stallions can be presented for licensing.
Holstein Global Stallion Book
A stallion of at least three years of age may be entered into the Holstein Global stallion book upon request to the Holsteiner Verband, provided he is licensed and registered with a WBFSH-affiliated breeding organisation, belongs to a Thoroughbred or Anglo-Arabian breed listed in the Holsteiner Verband's breeding programme, and the result of an age-appropriate stallion performance test is available.
Progeny of these stallions
The progeny of these stallions are registered in the foal book of the Holsteiner Verband, provided they are out of a mare entered in studbook I. They receive a Holsteiner certificate of pedigree I. Just like the mares, female and male progeny participate in the Holsteiner breeding programme.
Information on Holsteiner breeding
MARE REGISTRATIONS are possible at central grading sites or upon request at the stud farm. In Schleswig-Holstein, mare registrations take place in May, and in the extended breeding district from late June to September. You can find the exact dates and the registration form here.
REGISTRATION OF FOALS: Please report the birth of the foal to the Holsteiner Verband via the birth notification. Following successful notification, you will receive all documents necessary for the registration of the foal at an premium/registration date. Further information on foals can be found here.
