Dr Michael Rüping was awarded the Rider's Cross in Gold during the German Show Jumping Derby in Hamburg. Peter Hofmann, chairman of the Jumping Committee of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrianism (DOKR), presented the award together with national coach Otto Becker. Furthermore, Michael Rüping was appointed an honorary member of the DOKR Jumping Committee.
In his personal laudation at the Derby arena, Peter Hofmann, member of the executive board of the German Equestrian Federation, spoke about Michael Rüping's magnificent career. During his active time, he was German Champion, winner of the Grand Prix of Aachen, and winner of the Hamburg Derby in 1987 with his dream horse, Silbersee. "Silbersee and you, you stood for exemplary, horse-friendly, and successful riding."
The doctor of medicine also celebrated numerous successes in the saddle of the Holsteiner Verband stallions Calypso II and Caletto I. In 1983, Caletto and Michael Rüping, together with Paul Schockemöhle, Achaz von Buchwaldt, and Gerd Wiltfang, were part of the German European Championship team in Hickstead that won bronze. In 1985, Michael Rüping won the team bronze medal with Silbersee for Germany at the European Championships in Dinard, and in 1986 they were part of the German team at the World Championships in Aachen. And Rüping also brought Calvaro, who later became famous with Jos Lansink, into the sport.
"Otto Becker and I admire your knowledge, your abilities, your feel for rider and horse. Your expertise always flowed into the committee's decisions. Nothing is more important than having a sports man of practice in this position." After the past electoral period, Dr Michael Rüping decided not to run for the Jumping Committee again. "That is a pity. We trust your judgment and appreciate your closeness, not only in sport, but also on a human level." A consolation: Philipp Rüping, Dr Michael Rüping's son, is now the athlete representative on the Jumping Committee.
The management and the entire board of directors of the Holsteiner Verband congratulate him on the Rider's Cross in Gold on behalf of its members!
