Due to the outbreak of the herpes virus in Valencia, Spain, most competitions in Europe have been cancelled by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and, in Germany, by the German Equestrian Federation (FN). A series of competitions has been running in Wellington, USA, since the beginning of January and is set to continue. Amongst others, Holsteiners placed in the four-star Grand Prix there, with Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z – approved for breeding trials – taking the win.
The best-placed Holsteiner was Amsterdam, ridden by Teddy Vlock (ISR), who finished third in the strong field of the competition, which had a prize fund of 214,000 US dollars. The gelding had previously been ridden by the Canadian Mario Deslauriers, who had ridden the bay by Catoki-Acord II (Sönke Petersen, Behrendorf) from line 741 very successfully for Marten Witt since the end of 2017. Fourth place went to Margie Goldstein-Engle with the Rhineland-registered Holsteiner Dicas by Diarado-Cassini I (Karl Heinz Gierkes, Nettetal) from line 8775.
The winner of the high-prize-money show jumping competition was the stallion Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z, who has been approved for the Holstein breeding trial since 2019; ridden by Daniel Deusser, he left the other seven jump-off competitors in the Grand Prix behind with a clear round and at lightning speed. They thus continue their winning streak, which began at the end of October with first place in the Grand Prix at St. Tropez-Grimoud in France. This was followed by further victories in the World Cup show jumping events in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Wellington.
