The Holstein Stallion Days in Elmshorn kicked off on Saturday afternoon with the spring licensing. Five new sires have been given the green light by the licensing committee, headed by breeding director Stephan Haarhoff, and will henceforth carry the ‘licensed’ designation.
Firstly, there are four three-year-olds that impressed the licensing committee. Among them is Cor Victor by Corniolo-Casall, line 2472, bred and owned by Dr Antonio Conde (Wöhrden). Stephan Haarhoff was full of praise for the stallion, noting that, in addition to a “magnificent head coupled with a superb expression, he demonstrated very good execution of the jump – particularly when the obstacles were higher”. Casall de Cord by Casall-Accord II, line 18A1 (cover photo), was also approved. Jörg Kröger from Quickborn is responsible for breeding this promising young talent. “One of the most striking examples of type seen today. A horse with grand lines and a very light build, who also impressed with his jumping,” remarked the breeding director. The third in the line-up is Zuccatoki by Zuccero HV-Catoki, line 104A, bred and presented by Harm Thormählen (Kollmar). “Here we saw a true athlete with plenty of power and an outstanding forequarters, a superb neck and a strong back, who displays plenty of bascule and drive over the jump,” enthused Stephan Haarhoff about this grey. Semper fi (KWPN) by Mylord Carthago-Grandorado TN (W. B. J. Platzer, NED-AK Nieuw Schoonebeek) was also approved for breeding.
“The standard at this year’s spring licensing was very encouraging. The three-year-olds, in particular, impressed across the board over the jump. And the seven-year-old dressage sire Sky by Sezuan from Gestüt Schönweide, who was presented to us, also left a lasting impression and shone with his three very good basic gaits.”
