A mare who is highly interesting from both a breeding and a sporting perspective has been awarded the title of ‘Holsteiner of the Month’ this month. We are talking about Calleryama, who, ridden by Gilles Thomas, was part of the victorious Belgian team in the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona at the start of October. Calleryama is a Holsteiner through and through. She is by Casall and Contender; her granddam, Original Cor, is a cross between Corrado and his sister Korrada S from line 6879. Jutta Struve, widow of Corrado’s breeder Eduard Struve, reared the twelve-year-old and sold her to Steven de Wulf at the age of three.
According to HorseTelex, the large-framed Casall mare already has eleven offspring to her name, some of whom are also registered in Holstein. Their sires include Cornet Obolensky, Cardento, Uricas v/d Kattevennen and Untouchable. Some of them are already enjoying success in competition, as befits their age. Calleryama herself has long since made her mark in Grand Prix competition. She regularly places in the Global Champions Tour and in show jumping up to 1.60 metres. In early October, she finally competed at the FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona and was part of the Belgian gold-medal-winning team. Incidentally, her valuable genes are secured for Holsteiner breeding: Nicole Struve, niece of Jutta and Eduard Struve, is continuing to breed successfully with a Casall daughter by Original Cor.
