Cordillo is what you might call a true Derby specialist. The Holsteiner, sired by Corrido-Candillo and bred by Erik Schöning of Sipsdorf, has competed very successfully on numerous occasions. In 2019, he even emerged victorious from the venerable Klein Flottbeker Rasen under the saddle of Nisse Lüneburg.
In recent years, Simon Heineke, a rider at Stall Moorhof, has been in the saddle of the now 18-year-old – and these two, too, form a dream team over walls, birch oxers, ditches and the like. After several placings, victory was now within reach.
It was only in the decisive jump-off that Simon Heineke and the representative of the Holstein line 3488 were narrowly defeated. However, disappointment quickly gave way to immense gratitude. “He gave me a brilliant feeling. All I can say is thank you,” said a visibly moved Simon Heineke to springreiter.de, paying tribute to his exceptional sporting partner Cordillo.
It is also interesting to take a look at Cordillo’s pedigree. His granddam, Gala by Caretino, is regarded as a real gem of show jumping breeding. She has produced no fewer than five 1.60-metre show jumpers, including Hans Torben Rüder’s successful mare Orlanda by Julio Mariner xx.
