Holsteiner Winter Chance: Sport horses, young horses, broodmares

The Covid-19 crisis continues to affect all areas of life. This also applies to the equestrian world. For this reason, this year’s second Holsteiner Winter Chance will be held as an online-only auction. On 12 and 13 December, 48 horses will be offered for sale – the lot list, including pedigrees, photos and videos, is already available online. Offspring of internationally successful show jumping sires such as Casall, Balou du Rouet, Comme il faut, Vagabond de la Pomme, Livello, Sandro Boy, Clinton I and, for example, Clarimo are represented. Younger stallions such as Dinken, Charleston, Brantzau and Castle Creek are also providing interesting offspring.

Catalogue number 22 is certainly a rarity: a direct son of the great Caretino. With purebred lines and dams that have themselves enjoyed success in sport, often up to the advanced class, many candidates are waiting at the second Holsteiner Winter-Chance: for example, catalogue number 4, Mr Obolensky M by Cornet Obolensky-Baloubet du Rouet. His dam, Miss Baloubet, was herself placed internationally up to 1.45-metre level and has already produced a 1.40-metre show jumper. Or catalogue number 29, Calina by Calinello–Capitol I, whose dam, Genua, excelled in 1.40-metre competitions and whose granddam, Zange by Lagos, produced several offspring successful in jumping up to 1.60 metres. Catalogue number 13, Fabienne by Clinton I–Quinar, is in foal to Casanova de Beaufour, a son of Kashmir van Shuttershof. The seven-year-old Fabienne excelled at her mare test with a 9.5 in show jumping and has already had foals.
Catalogue number 25, Ipanema by Caracho-Carentan, and catalogue number 33, Jolanda by Leovisto-Cassini I, for example, can score points with age-appropriate placings. Sputnik by Sandro Boy-Quintero, line 3401, (catalogue number 43) has placed up to 1.20 metres. And there are certainly some interesting offers in the lot for fans of the Holstein eventing horse too. Take, for example, catalogue number 6 , a two-year-old son of Castle Creek–Chambertin, whose granddam by Exorbitant xx produced the international eventing horse Mr Bass (Laura Colett/GBR).
Even at last year’s inaugural auction, there were several promising candidates who have since lived up to the hopes placed in them: Charissa by Clarimo-Casall, from the renowned 104A line, has now achieved placings up to S** level under Sven Gero Hünicke, a multiple German junior champion. Chicharito LS by Fergar Mail FS-Carthago is racking up ribbons in international advanced show jumping up to 1.50 metres under the Dutch rider Niels Bulthuis. The five-year-old Picasso vd Zwartbleshoeve by Cornet Obolensky-Zidane, purchased at auction by the Argentine show jumper José Maria Larocca, is currently being trained by Nadine Kassner and regularly impresses with very good rounds. Not to be forgotten: some of the mares auctioned last year have since passed a very good mare performance test.
This year, the holsteiner.auction portal has established itself as the platform for online auctions, allowing bidders to participate in real time. Bidding opens on 10 December at 12 noon. It is advisable to register in advance, unless you have already done so for previous auctions. Roland Metz (+49 171 4364 651) will be happy to answer any questions regarding the event and the horses themselves.
