On 12 July, two Holsteiner foal auctions took place at two different venues – as part of the Springflut Festival in Hörup and the Falsterbo Horse Show in Sweden. Both auctions concluded with some top prices and good average prices: in Hörup, buyers paid an average of 13,250 euros per foal, whilst in Falsterbo the average was 11,000 euros.
The top price in Hörup was achieved by catalogue number 11, Ces’t Chic Hero P by Cento-Echo van’t Spieveld, bred by Timm Peters from Bargenstedt. Following a long and thrilling bidding battle at the heart of the Springflut Festival – right in the middle of the market square – buyers from Germany secured the lot. They were willing to pay 20,000 euros for the filly, who is descended from the famous Usha van’t Rossakker. The hammer fell at 17,500 euros, brought down by auctioneer Hendrik Schulze Rückamp for catalogue number 10, Tequila by Pegase van’t Ruytershof-Cascadello I. Johannes Manns from Wöhrden is the breeder of the filly from line 730B. Her granddam, India Blue by Zirocco Blue, is a full sister to the licensed stallions Zornell I and II. Zornell II also bears the prefix L.B. in his name and enjoyed success on the international show jumping circuit with Christina Liebherr (SUI).
Catalogue number 1 also put customers in a buying mood right from the start of the auction. Modric P by Million Dollar-Cornet Obolensky, bred by Timm Peters, changed hands for 17,000 euros. Once again, it has been demonstrated that outstanding performance within the bloodline generates great demand: in the case of Modric P, it is line 890 that offers hope for an outstanding future. The World Cup finalist Bull Run’s Jireh by Uriko (Kristen Vanderveen/USA) and his full brother, the former reserve champion at the Holstein licensing, Uno I, are both descended from Modric’s granddam. A colt from the debut crop of the association stallion Cascolero also fetched a very good price of 16,000 euros. Cörnel A (catalogue number 13, sire: Kannan) was presented by ZG Andresen from Amrum and – like all the foals at this auction – remains in German ownership. The sale rate was 100 per cent.
It was also very pleasing that two very special catalogue entries found good homes: the cow Chili and the laying hens Trude & Lisbeth were auctioned off for a good cause. In aid of the Katharinen Hospiz am Park in Flensburg, Chili changed hands for 15,000 and the hens for 2,000 euros.
Proven racing genetics in demand
in Sweden
In Falsterbo, Sweden, twelve promising young horses travelled with their breeders and owners to the long-established Falsterbo Horse Show, where they represented the Holsteiner breed to perfection: Highly sought-after foals by in-demand sires from proven dam lines ensured that, at this auction, the international clientele invested an average of 11,000 euros in their future Holsteiner star. Two foals achieved a hammer price of 16,000 euros: one was catalogue number 4, Touch of Diamond ML by Ermitage Kalone-Diarado (Tomasz Olszewski/POL). The filly’s granddam is the full sister of Cardento by Capitol I (Peter Eriksson/SWE) and thus boasts numerous 1.60-metre-class horses among her closest relatives, including, for example, Cartello by Cartani (Darragh Kenny/IRL). Touch of Diamond ML will be based in the Netherlands in future. Secondly, catalogue number 7, Tamila by Ogano Sitte-For Fashion. She was bred by Ohl Lühr KG in Büsumer Deichhausen. Her granddam produced none other than the Aachen winner L.B. Convall by Colman (Philipp Weishaupt). Buyers from Norway secured the bid for Tamila. Once again, two foals were sold by auctioneer Christoph F. Rowold for 12,000 euros: Thalia by Ermitage Kalone-Verdi (catalogue number 1), bred by ZG Hansen & Remus (Wöhrden), and Knoppers by Keaton I-Cascadello I (Jens Böckenhauer, Boostedt). Hopefully, we will see this son of Keaton again in a few years’ time as a candidate for licensing, as his new home is one of Europe’s largest stud farms. With a sales rate of 83 per cent, the foals sold for 11,000 euros. They were sold to buyers in Sweden, Norway, England, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
