As part of the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby, an auction of ten selected Holstein foals took place on Ascension Day. Three lots shared the top price of 23,000 euros. One of these was catalogue number 1: Cas Hope by Casall-Lord Z, bred by Reimer Detlef Hennings from Bendorf. The stallion, who has a brother of the same name who is licensed and successful internationally, was secured by the Müter family from Elmgestüt Dreieichen. Catalogue number 5 also went to Thomas Kleis’s stables – likewise for 23,000 euros. United Derby, as the son of United Way and Catoki (Bettina Friemel, Oyten) is named, possesses Derby bloodlines on both his dam’s and sire’s sides, as his sire, United Way, is a son of Thomas Kleis’s Derby winner Carassina, and his granddam, Zera, herself won the German Show Jumping Derby in 2017 with Pato Muente (ARG) in the saddle. The third highest-priced horse need not travel far to his new stables. Private clients from Hamburg proved to have the most staying power in the bidding war for catalogue number 7, a son of the Bundeschampion Crack out of a Casall dam, bred by Prof. Dr Hartwig Schmidt (Borsfleth), who passed away last year. Calitino hails from the legendary Holstein line 104A.
The successful buyers, who also include the international show jumpers Shane Breen (IRL) and Geir Gulliksen (NOR), paid an average of 15,100 euros for these promising young horses.
