Farewell to Uwe Heckmann

Uwe Heckmann, who worked as an auctioneer at Holsteiner Auktionen from 1985 to 2016, has passed away.

Uwe Heckmann (born in 1950) had made a name for himself over decades as a star auctioneer and also helped shape the auction scene in Holstein. Numerous high-value riding horses, stallions and foals passed under his hammer.

He was regarded as a leading authority in his field and was known for his direct manner, with which he knew how to captivate his audience. Heckmann had learnt his trade from the ground up under Hans-Joachim Köhler and was a horseman through and through. A sound basic training and a holistic view of the horses at auction were of great importance to him. Heckmann was valued, amongst other things, for his enormous passion for his vocation and his precise judgement. Furthermore, he possessed an impressive knowledge of history, art and music.

The Holsteiner Breeders’ Association (Verband der Züchter des Holsteiner Pferdes e.V.) and its members bid farewell to a truly special horse lover.
