World-class genetics, up-and-coming young stars and the Holsteins’ meticulously maintained mare lines – this formula for success has once again been confirmed at the Holsteiner Highlight Sales held as part of the Springflut Festival in Hörup. The top price of 39,500 euros was achieved by catalogue number 101, Rubin HaS by Cornet Obolensky out of Plot Blue, which was sold to the USA.
This filly’s dam is none other than the full sister of the Nations Cup winner and association stallion Million Dollar. These bloodlines were already in high demand with the top lot at the German Derby in Hamburg – Hof am Sylvert-Rörden GbR (Föhr) presented the foals at the auction. Catalogue number 106, Virginia by Vatson Sitte-Uriko, changed hands for 18,000 euros. She comes from the Wilfried Thomann stud (Bohmstedt), which is also responsible for breeding the sire of the century, Casall – Casall’s dam, Kira XVII, is the granddam of this elegant filly, who will remain in Schleswig-Holstein. Catalogue number 109, bred by Matthias Hansen (Kronprinzenkoog), sparked a veritable bidding war: Very Nice is by the five-year-old Holsteiner Association stallion Vigado (MV. Casall) and proved impressive in every respect – the auction hammer, wielded by Hendrik Schulze-Rückamp, fell at 17,000 euros. “The collection aroused great interest among clients from all over the world,” reported auctioneer Felix Flinzer. “Fortunately, the offspring of both established sires and up-and-coming young stallions were in extremely high demand.” Clark by Clarimo-Casall (catalogue number 115; Silke Zuba, Wesselburen) sold for 16,500 euros. Among other things, he is a close relative of Kevin Staut’s (FRA) Cheppetta by Chepetto, who won the 1.60-metre Grand Prix in Paris in 2022.
Seven lots sold for 10,000 euros or more, with the average price of the foals sold standing at 14,636 euros.
