The World Championships in Herning, Denmark, came to an end today. Numerous horses from the country between the seas had qualified for the championships; in the end, they won five medals in show jumping and one in vaulting.
The new World Vice-Champions are Quel Homme de Hus and Jérôme Guery from Belgium. The son of Quidam de Revel by Candillo, bred by Dr Andreas Kosicki (Berlin), was beaten only by the world number one, Hendrik von Eckermann (SWE), and King Edward. The second-best Holsteiner was Limbridge by Limbus-Cambridge (Ralf Pawlowski, Heidenheim), who made his championship debut under Jana Wargers and finished ninth.
No fewer than three riders from the Dutch team opted for horses bearing the Holsteiner brand. And it paid off, as the Dutch team won silver. Specifically, these were Monaco by Cassini II–Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf) ridden by Harrie Smolders, Long John Silver (Peter Burmeister, Wangels) ridden by Jur Vrieling, and Con Quidam RB by Cardino-Quinar (ZG Bröcking, Borken) ridden by Sanne Thijssen. With the kind support of the Holsteiner breeders, one might say with a wink. The bronze medal went to the team from Great Britain, which also included the young Joseph Stockdale and Equine America Cacharel by Cachas-Quinar (Helmut Bohm, Haselund). The German team, which also included Jana Wargers and Limbridge, finished fifth.
The German vaulters won three medals at the World Championships in Herning. Gold went to the NORKA team from VV Köln-Dünnwald in the premier discipline, group vaulting. The team had relied on the 13-year-old Holsteiner Calidor by Calido I-Ahorn Z (ZG Burmeister & Stahr, Schwaan) for their victory.
