The Verband der Züchter des Holsteiner Pferdes e.V. must bid farewell to its long-standing member Günther Fielmann. The founder of the optician chain of the same name died on Wednesday at the age of 84 in his place of residence, Lütjensee in Schleswig-Holstein. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

In Günther Fielmann, the Holsteiner Verband loses a successful breeder whose horses from Gestüt Schierensee are successful all over the world—specifically in the disciplines of dressage, show jumping and eventing. Above all of these is certainly the Conteur-Linaro daughter Annabelle, who retired from sport last year and became team European champion in Hagen in 2021 under Helen Langehanenberg. Or indeed Tim Price’s Olympic horse and five-star eventer Vitali by Contender-Heraldik xx. But horses bred by Günther Fielmann shape more than just sport; champion mares and licensed stallions were also born at Gut Schierensee. Most recently in 2023, Fielmann presented the Holsteiner champion mare N-Quinta by Casall-Corofino I in Elmshorn. The Fielmann breeding establishment is also responsible for licensed stallions such as De Chirico by Dolany-Linaro and Amber by Ampère-Linaro, among others.

Günther Fielmann was regarded as a visionary in many respects, committing himself and donating to education, science, culture and nature conservation. The state of Schleswig-Holstein made him an honorary citizen. 

In the spirit of Günther Fielmann, his children Sophie and Marc Fielmann will continue his breeding at Gut Schierensee.
