From Holstein into the international world of show jumping – that could be the headline for the success story of Timm Peters and his horse breeding.
The man who lives with his family in Dithmarschen has already bred many top horses. But at present, it is the Uriko son Bull Run’s Jireh who is carrying the name Peters from Bargenstedt out into the whole world.
Timm Peters purchased a filly from Elfriede Bornholdt in Moorrege a few years ago that was to have a lasting influence on his breeding: Conella by Colman-Contender from line 890. Repeatedly, he bred the bay mare to Uriko. And that turned out to be a very excellent decision. In the very first year, a colt was born that is now among the best show jumpers in the world. We are speaking of Bull Run’s Jireh, who jumps from success to success under America's Kristen Vanderveen. The pair qualified for the World Cup Final this year and travelled to Basel (SUI), are victorious in competitions up to 1.60 metres – and are ranked an outstanding second place this year by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH). Thus, the eleven-year-old gelding makes a significant contribution to Holstein's top position at the WBFSH.
Timm Peters quickly realised that Conella was a special mare. Because alongside Jireh, among others, is her full brother, the former reserve champion of the Holsteiner licensing and sire at the Marbach State Stud, Uno I. Furthermore, Conella gifted Timm Peters with the licensed and 1.50-metre successful Quabri by Quibery, as well as the two three-year-old licensed stallions Bambam de Rouet by Baloubet du Rouet and Here I am by Heartbreaker. In addition, daughters by Cornet Obolensky and Heartbreaker carry Conella's genes into the next generations in Peters' breeding establishment.
Breeding breakthrough with Quick Nick
Yet it is not only line 890 that is cultivated in Bargenstedt. Indeed, Timm Peters' great breeding breakthrough actually came with a representative of line 390. We are referring to Quick Nick I by Quinar-Concerto II, who caused a sensation at the 2003 Holsteiner licensing. The premium stallion thrilled both the licensing commission and the audience during free jumping and was subsequently sold via the auction for a hitherto unprecedented sum of 400,000 euros.
Numerous top horses also originate from this mare family, which Timm Peters once took over from his father Otto. For instance, Soccero by Singulord Joter (Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann/Khaled Almobty) and Davis by Diarado (Rolf Göran Bengtsson) are just two examples. And quite recently, the seven-year-old Mané P by Million Dollar drew attention at the World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in Lanaken (ridden by Bart van der Maat).
Timm Peters and his family cultivate and develop a show-jumping horse breeding programme that reflects the modern Holsteiner Verband. Through well-thought-out matings, proven and thoroughly bred dam lines produce horses that shape breeding events in Holstein and far beyond its borders.
For his breeding achievements, Timm Peters was therefore presented with the award as Holsteiner Breeder of the Year by the First Chairman Olaf Rörden during the young stallion licensing.
