At Horses & Dreams in Hagen, a special Holsteiner mare was bid farewell from the sport: Queen Mary by Contendro I-Caretino (Joachim Tietz, Diekhusen-Fahrstedt), line 6874, who enjoyed numerous successes with Jan Wernke.
For 13 years, Wernke and the bay mare competed together: they were victorious in Nations’ Cups, placed in Aachen and, amongst other achievements, won the Grand Prix events in Dortmund and Frankfurt. Queen Mary is by the Caretino daughter and State Premium mare Horse Gym’s Carefina (breeding name Nomaga), who was also born at Joachim Tietz’s stud and competed with Felix Hassmann at events such as the European Championships. “This horse is the most wonderful horse you could imagine,” said a visibly moved Jan Wernke as he bid farewell to Queen Mary. “She always gave her all for me. A farewell in such a beautiful setting is exactly what she deserves.”
