As the saying goes, success has many fathers. And this is certainly true on the path to producing a good riding horse. For, in addition to pedigree, conformation and temperament, rearing and training all influence a horse’s development and, ultimately, the breeder’s success. In this seminar, FN Training Ambassador Christoph Hess, together with Gestüt Pohlsee, demonstrates how these factors are interrelated. They will explain why species-appropriate rearing is so important, how to achieve gentle yet effective training of young horses on the ground and under saddle, what influence a horse’s bloodline has on this, and which riding qualities can already be identified from the horse’s conformation. To illustrate this more clearly, horses of the same bloodline but of different ages will be presented and discussed, both in hand and under saddle, and their progression into the sport will be explored. A tour of the stud farm rounds off the seminar. Particular focus will be placed on the Aquatrainer as a means of gentle training support.
