It is always eagerly anticipated by experts and is one of the highlights of every show jumping stallion licensing: the free jumping of the prospective stallions once again held particular appeal for the audience this year – whether live in the arena or at home on screen via ClipMyHorse.TV.
It was already evident during the preliminary selections that the representatives of the 2018 crop were promising prospects. After a brief warm-up in the Holstenhallen arena, the 65 candidates demonstrated their talent in the free jumping line-up. “Many stallions confirmed their quality in free jumping, which they had already hinted at during the numerous preliminary viewings,” said breeding director and managing director Dr Thomas Nissen. “We have seen a high standard of performance among the top of the year’s crop, meaning there are several candidates who have distinguished themselves at the event as contenders for the title of Champion Stallion.” The commission led by Dr Thomas Nissen will take a final look at the contenders before the licensing decision is made tomorrow from 8.00 am, when the stallions will present themselves once more in the walking ring.

On Saturday, 31 October, Dr Thomas Nissen will announce the licensing verdicts for the final time in his role as breeding director following the walk-around. Afterwards, from around 11.00 am, the 32 candidates for the Elite Riding Horse Auction will go under the hammer. The lot ranges from three-year-old youngsters to Bundeschampionat finalists. Once the Elite candidates have been auctioned, the 2020 Champion Stallion will be proclaimed and, finally, the stallions available for sale will be awarded to their new owners.
