Friday’s programme was entirely devoted to the second free-jumping session. A total of 47 stallions once again appeared before the licensing committee – comprising Stephan Haarhoff, Christian Thoroe, Matthias Wittke and Horst-Klaus Heleine – at the Fritz-Thiedemann-Halle today.
Both yesterday and today there were plenty of impressive displays to be seen, with the result that 22 stallions from the 2021 crop were awarded a positive licensing verdict. Among them are three sons of Keaton by Kannan, who has only just produced his second crop. The former reserve champion Chinchero by Chopin, the Cartani son Christian and Corniolo by Cornet Obolensky are each represented by two offspring. “The horses once again performed very well during the free jumping today. The structure along the barrier helps the stallions to maintain contact with the bit, and there is a calm atmosphere. Hardly any poles were knocked down,” summarised breeding director Stephan Haarhoff. “This outstanding quality explains the relatively high approval rate for Holstein,” Haarhoff continued.
Tomorrow, Saturday, things will get really exciting again from 11.00 am. That’s when the premium stallions will be named and the champion stallion announced. Afterwards, Hendrik Schulze-Rückamp will take to the auctioneer’s podium and sell the stallions up for auction, as well as the Christmas Edition collection of riding horses, to their new owners.
There are still a few tickets available for Saturday at the box office in Elmshorn. Incidentally, a visit to the association’s grounds is also well worth it on Sunday, 17 December: at the Holsteiner Breeders’ Brunch organised by Hengsthaltungs GmbH, the younger stallions will be showcased in a presentation under training conditions from 10.30 am.
