Sporting events have gradually picked up pace again. Breeding shows are also permitted to take place once more, subject to strict hygiene measures and with a limited number of spectators. This includes the highlight of the calendar for Holsteiner horse enthusiasts. And so, from 29 to 31 October, everything will once again revolve around the Holsteiner horse at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster.
Sixty-nine prospective stallions have been carefully prepared for the event, and their breeders and owners are eagerly awaiting the days that will have a decisive influence on their future careers. Star sires Casall and Cornet Obolensky are the ones shaping the 2020 licensing line-up. But Diamant de Semilly is also well represented with his sons and grandsons, ensuring the desired diversity of bloodlines through Diarado, Dominator Z and Dinken. And, of course, the line-up also includes offspring of Colman and his son Catch, younger stallions such as Quiwi Capitol and Carbol, and ‘classic’ Holsteins such as Cascadello I, Livello and, for example, Clarimo. And then there are the sons of international sires and so-called ‘outcross stallions’ such as Quabri de L’isle SF, I’m Special de Muze BWP, Flipper d’Elle SF and Emerald van het Ruytershof, each of whom could provide interesting bloodline alternatives. “The genetics are relatively well distributed in this crop,” sums up breeding director Dr Thomas Nissen. From Neumünster to the world
On Thursday 29 October, the licensing begins as usual with the pavement test, followed by work on the lunge for dressage-oriented stallions and finally the walk-around ring. Friday is dedicated to free jumping and free walking, before the licensing verdicts are announced on Saturday and the 2020 Champion Stallion is proclaimed. The stallions offered for sale will be sold to new owners via a bidding war on Saturday, 31 October, following the riding horse auction. “Holding auctions in a hybrid format has become the norm this year,” explains auction director Roland Metz. You can bid for your Holsteiner of the future live at the Holstenhallen, via the tried-and-tested telephone method, or conveniently online from anywhere in the world. In the past, stallions sold in Neumünster have frequently gone on to achieve great success: Quiwitino by Quiwi Dream-Caretino, for example, left the Holstenhallen in 2014 with a positive licensing verdict and new owners, and is now enjoying international success in show jumping with Felix Hassmann. Fischer Wild Wave by Water Dance xx–Acobat II changed hands at the auction for unapproved stallions and is now making a name for himself in eventing under Michael Jung. Cordalis by Connor-Cassini II also came to the Brinkop family from Aukrug via Neumünster as an unapproved stallion and, this year, under Antonia Brinkop, went on to become the Holstein State Champion for four-year-olds. With 33 lots ranging from three-year-old youngsters to competition-proven sport horses, the Elite Riding Horse Auction offers a diverse selection, which can be tried out until 27 October before they go under the hammer on the Saturday of the event.
