The European Show Jumping Championships in Gorla Minore (ITA) took place at the weekend for the most promising young talents. Holsteiner horses played a key role in the team gold medals won by the German Children’s team and the Young Riders from Ireland.
Following their team gold in the Children’s category, Dialo by Diarado-Levisto Z (Klaus-Peter Wiepert, Neuratjensdorf), line 5118, and Jolie Marie Kühner (AUT) also won individual bronze. “Jolie Marie Kühner was one of my favourites for a medal. She rode confidently throughout the competition and didn’t make a single jumping fault,” summarised Eberhard Seemann, national coach of the German U14 team. Also riding to gold with the team were Carlucci v. Calido I-Acord II (Jürgen Schröder, Neuenbrook), registration number 2543, and Brianne Beerbaum, as well as Cartagena v. Cascadello I-Candillo (Jochen Fimpel, Kisslegg), line 5819, and Maximiliane Fimpel. The Netherlands’ team, which finished second in the Juniors’ competition, also included Conveni’s Bandia by Clinsmann-Quintero (Reimer Haalck, Friedrichskoog), line 504, and Nick Nanning. The pair also secured individual bronze. Gold in the Young Riders’ competition went to the Irish team, which included a Holsteiner: Fifty Shades of Grey by Cellestial-Carolus I (Denise Spörri-Müller, Greng), line 2115, was ridden by Cieran Nallon.
The son of Connor-Cosimo, Conner JEI (Gerhard Stamer, Duvensee), line 8778, and the Swiss rider Martin Fuchs triumphed in the Falsterbo Grand Prix as well as in the Nations Cup. Read more here. At the Longines Global Champions Tour leg in La Coruña (ESP), Monaco by Cassini II-Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, and Harrie Smolders took third place, securing around 45,000 euros in prize money.
In Mill Spring/Tryon (USA), NKH Mr Darcy by Darco out of Chepetto (Jiri Mayer/TCH), line 5054, and Nicolas Gamboa (COL) won the Grand Prix. The grey first entered the sport in Germany under Klas-Kristoff Kudlinski and Christian Heineking.
In Williamsburg, USA, Gotcha, line 776, a daughter of Stakkato-Cassini I bred in the Netherlands by Floris van Leuken, and Simon McCarthy (IRL) won a 1.45-metre show jumping class with a jump-off. Fourth place went to the Casall son of the same name (MV. Capitol I), line 754, bred by Manfred Birchler (SUI) and ridden by Ali Wolff (USA).
