Julien Anquetin and Julien Epaillard took a big risk with their blisteringly fast rounds in the jump-off at the World Cup in Bordeaux, but both ultimately knocked down a fence. In front of their home crowd, the two Frenchmen were beaten by a successful Holstein-Swiss pairing: Conner Jei and Martin Fuchs were once again rewarded for their composure. The son of Connor Cosimo (Gerhard Stamer, Duvensee), line 8778, won around 82,500 euros with the victory and made his rider proud: “It was difficult, it was fast – Conner handled it brilliantly,” said Martin Fuchs.
In the 1.50-metre show jumping competition in Vejer de la Frontera (ESP), no fewer than three Holsteiners secured top placings: third place went to Cashpaid J&F by Casall-Chicago (Hans-Hermann Gempf, Stelle), line 325, and Joao Victor Castro Aguiar Gomes de Lima (BRA). The stallion is the full brother of Cordial (Méganne Moissonnier/Denis Lynch), who has enjoyed great success at the highest levels. Dark Chocolate (sire: Acodetto I, breeders: Oldekop/Hulshof), line 3389, is also by Casall. Anastasia Nielsen (MON) presented the stallion and took fourth place under the Spanish spring sun. The successful trio was rounded off by a Casall grandson, namely the Cascadello I–La Zarras son Carlsson (Jürgen Reimers, York), line 4847. Ridden by Bruce Goodin (NZL), he finished fifth.
Lorenz by Livello-Clarimo (breeders Thorsten and Andrea Andresen, Amrum), line 1907, is a mainstay in Jens Baackmann’s (GER) stable. Last year, the Barune already impressed with numerous successes in advanced show jumping. In Vejer de la Frontera, he has now finished second in the 1.55-metre course. Kleons Renegade by Quintero-Stakkato (Katrin Kleon, Austria), line 8768, finished sixth here with Christoph Obernauer (AUT).
