At the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona (ESP), the Longines League of Nations, two Holsteiner horses were part of the Dutch and Swedish teams, which finished in second and third place respectively: Riding for the Dutch team were Uricas v/d Kattevennen by Uriko-Cassini I (Otto Boje Schoof, Hedwigenkoog), line 1916, and Harrie Smolders. Representing Sweden were the Holsteiner Association stallion Zuccero HV by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. The pair had also secured second place in the Grand Prix of Barcelona on Friday.
In El Jadida, Morocco, a Holsteiner won the 1.50-metre show jumping class: Davenport VDL by Diamant de Semilly–Indoctro (Prof. Dr Hartwig Schmidt, Borsfleth), line 104A, ridden by Khaled Almobty (KSA), who had already enjoyed success in Morocco last weekend. Chicharito by Casalito–Quo Vados I (Karl-Heinz Knudsen, Pellworm), line 741, and Adrian Schmid also finished fifth.
In the 1.45-metre show jumping class in Riesenbeck, two Holsteiners were placed in the top five: in second place was GK Curacao by Clarimo-Lerano (Manfred Kummetz, Lübeck), line 5401, ridden by Carsten-Otto Nagel. Fifth place went to Can Hope by Cascadello I-Lord (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 425, and Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann.
Queen Frieda, a daughter of Kannan and Quidam de Revel (Joachim Tietz, Diekhusen-Fahrstedt), line 6874, won a 1.45-metre show jumping class under Johanna Beckmann, having previously won a 1.40-metre class.
Shawn Casady won US$30,000 for his victory over 1.50 metres with Cool Quarz. He is a son of Quarz and Cassini I from the 2004 line, bred by Gundula Henningsen (Rantrum). Capitale by Cassini I out of For Pleasure (Elmar Sipple, Ravensburg), line 8769, and Charlie Jones (GBR) took third place.
