The CHIO Aachen is one of the most important competitions in Germany and enjoys a worldwide reputation. With outstanding victories and placings, Holstein horses and their riders made a name for themselves on the hallowed turf.
Leading the way was Teike Carstensen from Sollwitt: riding Greece, a daughter of Mylord Carthago and Quinar, she won the final of the U25 Show Jumping Cup in Aachen. The 24-year-old and her grey mare, bred by her family (line 3401), completed two flawless rounds in the qualifying round and jump-off. The rider, who runs a sports and commercial stable in Hörup together with Stephan Johannsen, is reaping the rewards of her meticulous training this season: having initially presented Greece in both the developmentand then in the first advanced-level classes, and having secured, amongst other things, the runner-up title at the Bundeschampionat, she has already won this year’s Hohen Wieschendorf Grand Prix over 1.60 metres and represented Germany in the senior team at the Nations Cup in Uggerhalne (DEN). Another Holstein pair, Nerrado by Nekton-Acorado (Uwe Krohn, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog), line 104A, and Hannes Ahlmann, took fourth place in the final. The stallion and his rider from Reher had won the qualifier and then secured this outstanding finish in the final.
The German team has triumphed in the Eventing Nations Cup! After the dressage and show jumping, the team had been in second place in the rankings. With convincing performances in the cross-country, Germany secured victory ahead of the USA and Great Britain. Two Holsteiners played a key role in this team success: Carjatan S by Clearway-Galant Vert xx (Carl-Friedrich Söhrmann, Groß Buchwald), line 6788, with Christoph Wahler in the saddle, and the Quiwi Dream-Cassini I son Carlitos Quidditch K (Miriam Kühl, Steinfeld), line 6082, ridden by Malin Hansen-Hotopp. Carjatan and Wahler also finished fourth in the individual classification.
David Will enjoyed double success with two of his Holsteiners: the Dinken-Corrado I son Dax (Dirk Georg Jessen, Jardelund), line 8793, was crowned National Champion last year with Richard Vogel and once again demonstrated his class in Aachen. Ridden by David Will, he jumped to victory in the Youngsters’ Cup. Will also led the lap of honour on Zaccorado Blue, this time in a 1.50-metre fault-time jumping competition. He is by Zirocco Blue-Acorado I (Tanja Schramm, Ilmenau), line 1298, and also finished sixth in the Allianz Prize over 1.55 metres.
Horses with Holsteiner pedigrees also enjoyed numerous successes beyond the Soers: Monaco by Cassini II-Contender, line 429, and Harrie Smolders competed in the Global Champions Tour leg in Monte Carlo (MON) and took second place in the 1.60-metre Grand Prix – the bay, bred by Ralf Lütje of Haseldorf, thus added 300,000 euros to his career earnings.
Jump for Joy by Cascadello I–Clinton I (Sport A Media S.R.0., Vinicne), line 1947, and Santiago Diaz Ortega (COL) won a 1.45-metre show jumping competition in Bonheiden (BEL).
In the Grand Prix in Ebreichsdorf, Austria – where a Nations Cup was also held this weekend – a Holsteiner took second place: Cossinelle by Cascadello I-Quebec (Jan Carstens, Steenfeld), line 1336, and Anisa Danilova completed two clear rounds in the 1.55-metre Grand Prix. Cellato by Cellestial-Calato (Jörn Kusel, Visselhoevede), line 318D2, and Michael Kölz (AUT) finished sixth.
In Kronenberg (NED), Camilla van de Helle triumphed in a 1.45-metre competition: the daughter of Crumble-Casall (Klaus Thiedemann, Oesterwurth), line 2543, was ridden by the Dutch rider Kevin Jochems.
