This week, Holsteiners from all over the world not only celebrated victories in the Nations Cup in Rotterdam and a five-star Grand Prix, but also secured top placings for up-and-coming young riders.
Monaco by Cassini II-Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, ridden by Harrie Smolders, and Con Quidam RB by Quinar-Cardino (ZG Bröcking, Borken), line 1446, and Sanne Thijssen were part of the Netherlands’ winning team in the 1.60-metre Nations Cup in Rotterdam. At this five-star competition, Oak Grove’s Carlyle by Casall-Corrado I (S.C. Sofino, St. Vith/Recht), line 1986, with Daniel Coyle (IRL) won the 1.60-metre Grand Prix and over 37,000 euros in prize money. Rolf-Göran Bengtsson had originally introduced the bay horse to the sport.
This weekend in Aachen, the country’s most talented U25 show jumpers competed in the final of the Show Jumping Cup. Casalia R by Casall-Loran (ZG Redderberg), line 1907, and Robin Naeve won the qualifying round of Germany’s U25 Show Jumping Cup, organised by the German Elite Equestrian Sports Foundation and the Müter family.
Catenda by Casall-Contender (Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 2067, and Edwina Tops-Alexander celebrated a victory over 1.45 metres against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The mare was brought into competition by Markus Renzel before moving to Stall Tops.
This weekend, David Will was competing in Italy and secured victory in a 1.50-metre show jumping class in Milan with Zaccorado Blue (Tanja Schramm, Ilmenau), a son of Zirocco Blue by Acorado I, line 1298.
Eventing
The team travelled to Luhmühlen this week for the German Youth Eventing Championships. Nicholas Goldbeck and Chintano by Chin Champ-Exorbitant xx (Thomas Gerken, Tremsbüttel), line 18B1, in second place. He hadn’t expected this: “It’s the first time I’ve taken part in the German Young Riders’ Championships. So I certainly wasn’t expecting anything like this,” said the 20-year-old trainee in wholesale and retail trade from Bargteheide. Nicholas Goldbeck was introduced to eventing through the Gerken family; for the past year, his horse has been stabled at Tasdorf Stud with Sophie and Christian Vogg. He has had the ten-year-old chestnut gelding Chintano since the horse was four years old. In Saturday’s cross-country round, the pair were among the fastest. “The horse was in top form and was really up for it, so I wasn’t going to deny him the fun of a good run,” he explained.
