Whilst many Holsteiner fans had their eyes fixed on the live presentation of the association’s stallions in Elmshorn this weekend, Holsteiners from all over the world naturally continued to enjoy success at international show jumping events.
After Theo by Christian-Calando IV (Gerhard Krätzer, Loit) and Conor Swail (IRL) had already won several classes up to 1.50 metres last season – for example in Las Vegas (USA) and Vancouver (CAN) – they have now also triumphed at the CSI3* in Thermal, USA. At this competition, Corradina by Toulon-Berlin (Salvatore Merendino), line 7669, and Karrie Rufer (USA) also won a difficult 1.40-metre show jumping class.
Casall (MV. Capitol I; Manfred Birchler, SUI), line 754, is named after his famous sire. The stallion, licensed in Oldenburg, finished third with Ali Wolff (USA) in a 1.60-metre class in Wellington (USA), adding around 32,000 US dollars to his career prize money.
Second place in a 1.45-metre competition was secured by the Casall son Casallino (MV. Loran; Harm Thormählen, Kollmar), line 2151, and Pius Schwizer. Last year, the Swiss rider enjoyed success with the bay horse at venues including Lyon (FRA) and Chevenez/Jura (SUI).
Captur by Berlin (Stal Albers, NED), line 474a, is a son of the State Premium mare Inessa by Quidam de Revel. This bay has now won a 1.40-metre show jumping class in the United Arab Emirates with Mohamed Shafi Mohamed Alremeithi (GUA). The dam also produced, amongst others, the 1.60-metre show jumper Notre Dame II by Cassini I, who in turn is the dam of the licensed stallion Vingino.
Dressage
In the dressage arena this weekend, two horses with Holsteiner pedigrees danced their way to top placings in the Grand Prix Special at Ankum: one was Rainer Schwiebert’s seasoned performer Helenenhof’s Catoo by Con Air-Caletto (Adelbert Sporn, Jardelundfeld), line 2027. The licensed stallion and former National Riding Horse Champion finished third (73 per cent) behind Sandra Nuxoll and Dorothee Schneider. The future also looks promising for Belle de Carpie by De Chirico-Carpaccio (Markus Jürgens, Breckerfeld), line 8780, and Kira Laura Soddemann. The pair finished fourth in the Special with a score of over 71 per cent. The mare entered the higher levels of competition in Schleswig-Holstein under Juliane Brunkhorst, who is also known to have trained the internationally successful Devanto by De Chirico-Lorentin (Holger Wesselmann, Kellinghusen), line 49.
