Nickel and Julia Krajewski have once again demonstrated their class, winning the long four-star competition in Boekelo (NED) following their victory in Aachen and an eleventh-place finish at the Olympic Games in Paris. Nickel is by Numero Uno-Lorentin I (line 4303) and was bred by Hindrick Stüvel (Rosengarten). The competition also marked the final Nations Cup of the year, in which the German team finished third. The cross-country course proved particularly challenging following heavy rainfall; although it had been shortened, several pairs struggled, particularly at an obstacle complex featuring narrow jumps. Nickel and Julia Krajewski also had a wobble here, but recovered immediately and were able to complete the cross-country course clear of faults and within the time limit. “Winning both Aachen and Boekelo in the same year is, of course, wonderful,” said Julia Krajewski. “Above all, though, I’m delighted to see how Nickel is developing from competition to competition. He’s absolutely reliable, honest and always wants to do everything right,” said the rider about her Olympic horse, which has recently come into the ownership of her long-standing supporter, Professor Bernd Heicke. Second place went to Dacapo (ZG Bock, Schülp), a son of Diarado out of Canturo, line 8805, ridden by Laura Collett. And third place went to the former World Champion in the young eventing horse category, Cute Girl by Coventry-Clearway (Hobe Magens, Ottenbüttel), line 308. The mare, who galloped to the World Championship title in 2021 with Kevin McNab (AUS), is now ridden by the American Hallie Coon. Coon and Cute Girl were just one of five pairs to complete the cross-country course without any time or fence faults. Incidentally, both the second- and third-placed horses in this class were discovered by Francesca Pollara at a Holsteiner auction.
Show Jumping
The autumn competition series is kicking off again in Oliva Nova (ESP), and a Holsteiner celebrated a victory straight away in the 1.50-metre show jumping class: We are talking about Quincassi by Quintero-Cassini I (Gempf Gorch-Hermann, Stelle), line 162. In the saddle was the Swiss rider Niklaus Schurtenberger, with whom the bay has been competing successfully at World Cup level for several years now. A horse from Holstein also took second place: Comthago VDL by Comme il faut–Carthago (Wilhelm Kochs, Eschweiler), line 3697, ridden by Hessel Hoekstra (NED).
In Tryon, USA, it was the Casall-Corrado I daughter Coco Beach (Anton Bauer, Wagram), line 425, ridden by Richie Moloney (IRL), who secured the bronze medal in a 1.55-metre course.
Caruso Bello finished fourth over 1.50 metres in Italy at Campo Rossi this weekend. The grey by Cascadello I out of Carry (Manfred Birchler, Bilten/SUI), line 890, changed hands at the licensed stallions’ auction in 2017 and has since enjoyed great success in Italy – including a third place in the Young Horse Championship. He has always been ridden by the Italian Giovanni Lucchetti. Another Holsteiner auction horse, AGS Casallida by Casall-Calido I (Frank Fritze, Neumünster) and Arthur Gustavio da Silva (SUI), came fifth in this competition. The pair had previously competed at the World Championships for Young Show Jumpers in Lanaken, amongst other events.
