On Saturday, the 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour came to a close with a thrilling final in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. In the decisive 1.60-metre Grand Prix, two horses with Holsteiner pedigrees finished in the top three: Monaco by Cassini II–Cotender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, took silver with Harrie Smolders (NED), Long John Silver by Lasino-Corrado I (Peter Burmester, Wangels), line 2896, and Jur Vrieling (NED) came third, thereby securing prize money of 180,000 and 135,000 euros respectively for this class alone.
In addition, the Helsinki Horse Show in Finland hosted another CSI5* competition featuring Holstein horses. Hannes Ahlmann, for example, placed his tried-and-tested stallion Nerrado by Nekton-Accorado I (Uwe Krohn, Hedwigenkoog), line 104A, in sixth place in Saturday’s 1.50-metre show jumping class.
The World Championships for young eventing horses were held at the Mondial du Lion in France. In the seven-year-old class, two Holsteiners made it into the top 10. One of these was Denim by Dinken-Ibisco xx (Martin Bachmann, Heimberg), line 49, in seventh place. Ridden by the American Philip Dutton, the gelding completed the World Championships with his dressage score. In ninth place was Ris de Talm by Adagio de Talma-Carvallo BB (Hans-Niko Hoeck, Grossolt-Kollerup), line 8626, ridden by Antonia Baumgart.
Meanwhile, in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein, the SH-Holstein International was held. Naturally, numerous Holstein horses were competing in Neumünster. Carsten-Otto Nagel secured the CSI* Grand Prix with Cancaneur by Connor-Lacros (Johann Heinrich Witt, Neuendeich), line 306.
