In Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Oranje team celebrated a home victory in the Nations Cup over 1.60 metres. The team included two Holsteiners who have established themselves as a guarantee of success for their riders in recent years.
One was Long John Silver by Lasino-Corrado I (Peter Burmeister, Wangels), line 2896, ridden by Jur Vrieling. The other was Monaco by Cassini II-Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, ridden by Harrie Smolders. Five further Holsteiners featured in the top six-placed teams: silver went to the Irish team with Cinca by Casall-Carthago (Peter Wylde, BEL), line 318D2, ridden by Michael Duffy. Cous Cous by Cachas-Lasino (Norbert Schmalbach, Mollhagen), line 18B1, and Hans-Dieter Dreher took bronze with the German team. Italy finished fifth with Curcuma il Palazzetto by Casall-Lord (M.R. Marzotto, ITA), line 7126, and Lorenzo de Luca. In addition, Aretinov. Artani-Caretino (Peter Thomsen, Epenwöhrden), line 6582, ridden by Gilles Thomas, and Cristel by Diamant de Semilly-Cento (Ronald Nowee, NED), line 18A2, ridden by Jérôme Guéry, and the Belgian team in sixth place.
In Olomouc, the Czech Republic, Disco (Hobe Bernhard, Kollmar), line 5881, and Zoltán Czékus (HUN) took third place in a 1.55-metre show jumping class. The son of Cachas out of a Lancer II dam has a record of wins and placings in international classes up to 1.55 metres, having already won, amongst other things, the Grand Prix of Warsaw (POL). Locanto RN by Carembar de Muze-Canturo (Reimer Nagel, Marne), line 18B1, and Ales Opatrny (CZE) finished fifth.
Chill Ma by Crunch-Alcatraz, bred by Rasmus Lüneburg (Hetlingen), line 8763, dominated the 1.45-metre show jumping competition at Roeser in Luxembourg. Pius Schwizer (SUI) rides the mare, whose dam, Leica, was herself highly decorated in classes up to 1.60 metres. Con Vados (Klaus Thiedemann, Oesterwurth), a son of Connor-Quo Vados I, line 2543, and Charlotte Bettendorf (LUX) took second place in this competition. Toronto Raptor by Totilas-Corofino I (Reimer Nagel, Marne), line 18B1, and Barbara Schnieper (CHE) came fourth.
