At the first outdoor competitions of the year this weekend, Holsteiner horses secured international placings.
Never Walk Alone by Numero Uno-Mytens xx (Casper von Rumohr, Hemmelsdorf), line 7126, had already enjoyed great success under Richard Vogel and his business partner David Will (GER) up to 1.60-metre level. Among other victories, Vogel rode him to victory in the Grand Prix of the City of Mannheim at the Maimarkt Competition. Gerald Nothdurft (GER) has now been riding the bay for several months and won two 1.45-metre classes in Arezzo, Italy.
At this competition, Carlo v. Cassus-For Pleasure (Jürgen Hattebuhr, Winsen), line 7709, and Max Haunhorst (GER), as well as Cordial v. Casall-Chicago Z (Hans-Hermann Gempf, Stelle), line 325, and Megane Moisonnier (FRA) also secured placings: specifically in a 1.50-metre show jumping class. Carlo, whose dam Valetta V had herself placed up to 1.50 metres, finished fourth, with Cordial following in fifth place.
Eventing
The winter break in eventing is over, and it didn’t take long for Holstein eventing horses to secure top placings: At Thoresby Park (GBR) this weekend, riders competed for victory and placings in a Four-Star Short Class – with a stellar line-up: the London Olympic team champion by Landos-Quinar (Ocke Riewerts, Föhr), Line 3200, and Laura Collett (GBR) took third place, just behind Cola by Catoki-Contender (Peter Böge, Schönhorst), Line 628B, with Isabelle Upton (GBR) in the saddle in second place. Fifth and seventh places went to Dacapo by Diarado-Canturo (ZG Bock, Schülp), line 8805, ridden by Laura Collett, and the double European champion JL Dublin by Diarado-Canto (Volker Götsche-Götze, Groß Buchwald), line 1907, ridden by Nicola Wilson (GBR).
In Aiken, USA, both the three-star and four-star events were dominated by a Holsteiner: Connory by Conrato-Lauries Crusador xx (Uwe Pahl, Dägeling), line 2895, and Jennie Brannigan (USA) took victory in the CCI3*. First place in the CCI4* went to Chin Tonic HS by Chin Champ-Quinar (Inken Gräfin von Platen Hallermund, Wangels), line 474A, and William Coleman (USA). The dark bay has only competed a few times at this level and has now already celebrated his second four-star victory.
