GK Curacao by Clarimo-Lerano (Manfred Kummetz, Lübeck), stock number 4501, and Carsten-Otto Nagel (GER) had already secured victory in Friday’s qualifier in Hagen. They then went on to win Sunday’s Grand Prix as well. Only eight pairs had qualified for the jump-off without any faults. “He has plenty of canter, fundamental quality and is careful,” said Nagel, describing the grey. Zuccero HV by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), Line 4539, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson came seventh. In eighth place were Canmore by Casall-Contender (Birgit Becker, Metelen), Line 18A2, and Markus Renzel (GER). Second place in the 1.50-metre class went to Greece by Mylord Carthago–Quinar (Margit Petersen), line 3401, and Teike Carstensen. Singu by Singulord Joter-Parco xx (Dr Hansjörg Andresen, Simonsberg), line 13A, and Hans-Thorben Rüder (GER) took third place.
In Stadl Paura (AUT), Holsteiners enjoyed success at an international competition for young riders: No Jealousy by Numero Uno-Corrado I (Vanessa Schockemöhle), line 2966, and Jessica Vonach (AUT) topped the honours list in a 1.45-metre show jumping class. Conconchello by Casalito-Corrado I (Hermann Südmeier), line 504, and Raphael Masson (BEL) took silver in another class at this level. Chocolat Blanc by Cartani-Leonid, line 7728, and David Moser (AUT) took the bronze. Johann Gerdes from Bargstedt is the breeder of the grey.
The Uriko son Upside (MV. Quo Vados I) comes from the stud of Hans Jürgen Schacht (Kollmar). Ridden by Niklas Schipler (GER), he won a 1.45-metre show jumping class in Zduchovice (CZE) at the Junior Nations Cup.
Eventing
At the five-star event in Kentucky (USA), two Holsteiners shone across all three disciplines with outstanding performances: the former Holsteiner auction horse JL Dublin by Diarado-Canto (Volker Götsche-Götze, Groß Buchwald), Line 1907, and Tom McEwen (GBR) finished in an excellent second place after a fault in the show jumping round cost them the victory. Carlito’s Quidditch K by Quiwi Dream–Cassini I (Miriam Kühl, Steinfeld), line 6082, and Malin Hansen-Hotopp were part of the German team at last year’s European Championships at Haras du Pin (FRA), which won silver – the rider’s first senior championship at the time. The pair proved once again in Kentucky that they have reached the very highest level. In the final show jumping round, they produced one of only two clear rounds – alongside the winner, Oliver Townend – and ultimately finished in fourth place. “I know he jumps really well when I ride well too. That worked out brilliantly today,” said a delighted Hansen-Hotopp afterwards.
