Hans-Dieter Dreher competed for victory in the 1.55-metre show jumping class at the Stuttgart German Masters but ultimately had to settle for second place. He was riding his horse Cous Cous. The Cachas-Lasino offspring (Norbert Schmalbach, Mollhagen), line 18B1, was one of two Holsteiners in the top five: Zuccero HV by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, and Maximilian Weishaupt also secured an excellent fourth place.
Not everyone manages to end their final competition with a victory, but he certainly did: Cashew CR, by Cassini II and Quinar, won a 1.50-metre Grand Prix in Toronto. The gelding was bred by Georg Clausen (Rabenkirchen), line 4539, and was ridden by Alex Matz (USA). At the post-victory press conference, the rider announced that this had been his sporting partner’s final competition appearance. At the age of 17, Cashew CR is now retiring from the sport in peak condition.
In the World Cup show jumping competition in Toronto, with prize money of US$200,000, the Holsteiners dominated the field: victory went to Casturano by Castelan I-Canturo (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 318D1, ridden by Conor Swail. Second place went to Barclino B by Barcley-Lasino (Hans Brinkop, Neumünster), line 4564, ridden by Skylar Wireman. And Rene Dittmer rode his German Championships bronze medallist to fourth place: Cody by Casall-Quidam de Revel was born at Sören von Rönne’s stud in Neuendeich and represents line 8900.
In Wellington, Bull Run’s Jireh by Uriko-Colman (Timm Peters, Bargenstedt), Line 890, once again why he is one of the top Holsteins that have contributed to the breeding association’s second place in the current WBFSH rankings. Jireh jumped to victory with Kristen Vanderveen in a 1.50-metre show jumping class.
