This week, the European Show Jumping Championships took centre stage in the continent’s equestrian calendar; from a Holsteiner perspective, one pair in particular celebrated a successful debut at the championships.
That pair was C Vier by Cardento-Concorde (W. Wolters, Groningen), line 8818, and David Will, who represented Germany in Riesenbeck. They opened the championships with a victory in the warm-up show jumping, secured the silver medal in the team event and ultimately finished seventh in the individual final. The pair had already impressively demonstrated that this combination works exceptionally well together with their victory in the Five-Star Grand Prix of Rome and their nomination for the Tokyo longlist – and now they have delivered once again on their first championship appearance.
In the Surenburg Grand Prix as part of the CSI2* Tour at the Riesenbeck International venue, Uricas v/d Kattevennen by Uriko-Cassini I (Otto Boje Schoof), line 1916, ridden by Harrie Smolders (NED), and Pikeur Dylon by Diamant de Semilly-Carry (Gerd Ohlsen, Föhr), line 18A1, ridden by Markus Brinkmann, and Nexus by Nekton-Calando I (Dieter Pingel, Altenmoor), line 2428, ridden by Maximilian Weishaupt (GER), meaning three Holsteiners took the top spots (fourth, fifth and sixth).
One successful pair has remained true to form: Austria by Casall-Corrado I (Heide M. Kriegler, Sigless/AUT), line 4564, and Kent Farrington (USA) have won a 1.50-metre class at Spruce Meadows (CAN). Austria is one of Farrington’s absolute top horses: “She’s naturally fast, which is what makes her so special in our sport,” says the American of the mare, who is by a dam who was herself successful in the sport.
In Lier, Belgium, Classic Touch DH by Casall-Corrado I (Johann Peter Laß), line 162, and Thibeau Spits (BEL) emerged victorious in a 1.45-metre class.
