At the Global Champions Tour event in Rome (ITA), Harrie Smolders picked up further vital points for the current rankings. Riding Monaco by Cassini II-Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, he finished third in the 1.60-metre course.
In Warsaw (POL), the daughter of Corrado I-Cayado, Ethene (Ferdinand Rutjes, NED), line 776, shone with Lars Bak Andersen (DEN) over 1.55 metres: Just a hair’s breadth slower than the winner, she completed the jump-off to take an excellent second place. Sixth place went to Calder by Casall-Coriano (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 844, and Anastasia Bondarieva (UKR).
In Bonheiden (BEL), a Holsteiner won the Grand Prix over 1.45 metres: It was Jump For Joy by Cascadello I-Clinton I (Sport A Media S.R.O.), line 1947, ridden by Santiago Diaz Ortega (COL). The pair had already won a 1.45-metre class here in July and had also finished second in Lier, Belgium.
Riding the Uriko daughter Ulania (sire: Acord II), line 13A, Donald Whitaker (GBR) took bronze in the 1.45-metre Grand Prix in St Tropez (FRA). The mare was bred by Christian Thoroe (Haselund) and was prepared for demanding competitions in Germany by Nicola Pohl.
Eventing
Castagnola, a Holsteiner mare, was part of the bronze-medal-winning Young Riders’ team at the European Young Riders’ Eventing Championships in Montelibretti (ITA). The representative of line 5721 was bred by Thomas May from Düsseldorf and ridden by Carla Hanser. She is by Contender-Lancer II and finished the European Championships in 13th place in the individual standings.
The four-star eventing competition at Mill Spring (USA) was dominated by Commando, a son of Connor-Amigo xx from line 268. Joachim Siebke from Thumby was responsible for the breeding, whilst the rider was the American Boyd Martin, who had taken over the gelding from Louise Romeike (SWE). Phillip Dutton (USA) also rode Denim, a son of Dinken-Ibisco xx (Martin Bachmann, Heimberg), to sixth place. Denim changed hands at the Holsteiner Auction in 2019 and initially enjoyed success in cross-country under Merel Blom (NED).
