In Barcelona, Spain, Elysium by Zirocco Blue-Coronado I (Manfred Tummes, Mühlheim), line 4539, and Hans-Dieter Dreher were part of the outstanding German winning team in the Nations Cup final. Throughout the competition, the grey had shone with faultless performances. Right from the start, Hans-Dieter Dreher praised his riding partner: “I had a brilliant feeling! Elysium was jumping exceptionally well.” And on the final Sunday, too, the horse proved to be a reliable partner; over the past season, for example, he had finished in the top three in Amsterdam (NED), Hamburg (GER) and, most recently, at Spruce Meadows, Calgary (CAN). “He was brilliant again today,” beamed the delighted rider. National coach Otto Becker was also delighted: “I’m absolutely delighted and so proud of my team.” A former Holsteiner auction horse shone in the US team: Callas by Casall-Coriano (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492, and McLain Ward finished fifth in the final standings. In the Challenge Cup for those teams that did not reach the final round, it was Long John Silver by Lasino-Corrado I (Peter Burmeister, Wangels), line 2896, and Jur Vrieling who secured first place for the Netherlands.
Tokyo by Toulon-Cassini I (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492, and Hannes Ahlmann took silver in the Riesenbeck Grand Prix. The mare had also recently taken silver in the Warendorf Grand Prix. The Hickstead-Catoki daughter Flower Girl (Michal Szadkowski), line 628B, and Marcus Ehning also won a 1.45-metre Large Tour jumping competition. Last year’s World Champion, Caillan by Casall-Carry (Gerd Ohlsen, Föhr), line 18A2, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson proved unbeatable in a challenging show jumping class – their second consecutive victory following their triumph in the Youngster Tour at the Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg State Show in Bad Segeberg. In a 1.45-metre course, Robin Naeve rode his successful mare Casalia R by Casall-Loran (ZG Redderberg, Ahrensbök), line 1907, to second place. C-Jay (Hobe Bernhard, Kollmar), a son of Carthago Contender, line 318D2, and Johannes Ehning finished in fifth place.
