Nine teams competed in the final of the League of Nations, the Nations Cup series organised by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), in Barcelona. In the German team, Coolio (Martina Wirtz, Hohenzieritz), a son of Casalito-Quidam de Revel, line 2067, represented the Holstein region alongside Marcus Ehning.
The German team had set their sights high for the Longines League of Nations final. Having won the Nations Cup final in each of the previous two years, they finished third in 2025. “We have repeated our result from the European Championships,” said national coach Otto Becker, offering a sober initial assessment. He had travelled to Spain with his European Championships squad, which consisted of Richard Vogel (United Touch S), Christian Kukuk (Just Be Gentle) and Sophie Hinners (Iron Dames Singclair), as well as Ehning and Coolio. “It was a combination of some uncharacteristic and also frustrating errors,” the national coach summarised. Ehning and Coolio also had a knockdown in the first round, whilst in the second they incurred a time fault. Victory went to the team from Great Britain, ahead of the team from Ireland.
L-Maleena von der Söhr is a daughter of Manchester van’t Paradijs-Chambertin. Her breeder, Christian Schröder, maintains, amongst other things, her 18A2 line in Groß Wittensee. Maleena, now seven years old, has won a 1.40-metre Youngster show jumping competition in Fontainebleau, ridden by Giampiero Garofalo (ITA).
Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli (SWE) rides Comtado, a son of Comme il faut who shows great promise in competition. Heinz Dehne from Wedemark bred the chestnut out of a Corrado I dam; he represents line 8720. The eight-year-old has now won a difficult show jumping competition in Bonheiden (BEL).
