First Marlboro, then Lexington and now Wellington – the former Holstein State Champion, Corsica Xv. Connor-Corofino II (Erich Westphal, Stipsdorf), line 4564, and Rene Dittmer (GER) have secured their third consecutive Grand Prix victory on their US tour.
The Grand Prix in Wellington had a prize fund of 226,000 US dollars, and the successful pair dominated the field with a lead of over two seconds over the runner-up. Also in Wellington, the former Holsteiner auction horse Lord Lucio, ridden by Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA), won a 1.45-metre course. The Legolas-Cero I offspring was bred by Ahsbahs GbR in Bokel.
In the 1.60-metre World Cup show jumping event in La Coruña (ESP), the Toulon son Tornado VS (Vanessa Schockemöhle, Steinfeld), line 8769, took bronze with the Spaniard Armando Trapote. The gelding, out of a Contender dam, was part of the Spanish team at this year’s European Championships in Milan, where he made a significant contribution to the team’s fifth-place finish with two clear rounds.
Scuderia 1918’s Calle Deluxe by Cesano II out of Con Air (Karl Ernst Kruse-Sönke, Kollmar), line 18B1, and Giulia Martinengo Marquet (ITA) won a 1.55-metre show jumping competition in Valence, France. The gelding began his competitive career in Schleswig-Holstein under Volkert Naeve and has enjoyed international success up to 1.60 metres with his Italian rider.
At the four-star show in Stockholm, Holsteiners took third, fourth and sixth places in the 1.50-metre class: the association-owned stallion Zuccero by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, came third with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE). Fourth place went to Diamantino by Diamant de Semilly–Caretino (Joachim Schiedel, Grande), line 260, and Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE). Casallco by Casall-Contender (Frans Vrenken/NED), line 8798, and Philip Rüping came fifth.
Caruso Bello by Cascadello I–Carry (Manfred Birchler/SUI), line 890, was once sold at a Holsteiner auction to an Italian owner. Having caused a sensation at Italy’s Young Horse Championships, amongst other events, he has now established himself on the international circuit. In Ornago (ITA), he finished fourth twice in advanced show jumping.
