Coronado and Nayel Nassar (EGY) secured victory in the 1.60-metre Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows (CAN), which carried a prize fund of one million US dollars. The son of Cassini I out of Acord II (Karl-Heinz Markussen, Hochviöl), line 8828, was originally brought into the sport by Rodrigo Pessoa and has so far achieved placings in events such as Dublin (IRL) and Valkenswaard (NED). The grey is owned by the California-based rider and his wife Jennifer Gates, who jointly run Evergate Stables. Only four riders had made it through to the jump-off of the 1.60-metre Grand Prix, and the 14-year-old Coronado achieved the greatest success of his career to date.
Two Holsteiners finished in the top six at Mill Spring (USA): one was Lissino by Limbus-Cassini I (Günther Brockstedt, Langwedel), line 456, ridden by Darragh Kerrins (IRL), who came second. The other was the Casall-Corrado I daughter Coco Beach (Anton Bauer, Wagram), line 425, ridden by Richie Moloney (IRL), who finished sixth.
Clarima by Clarimo-Quintero (Carsten Schafmeyer, Diepholz), line 1859, and the Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen secured victory in the 1.45-metre show jumping class in Valkenswaard (NED). Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann’s Cornela also finished fifth in the 1.50-metre show jumping. The mare is by Cornet Obolensky out of Caretino, line 4847, and was bred by the Meyer family themselves.
At the three-star CSI in Mâcon Chaintré (FRA), Chill Ma by Crunch-Alcatraz (Rasmus Lüneburg, Hetlingen), line 8763, and Pius Schwizer (SUI) took the top spot in a 1.50-metre show jumping class. E-Chupalina by Clarimo-Caretino (Harm Sievers, Tasdorf), line 1298, and the Belgian rider Katja Haep also finished in fifth place.
Cher Cheval by Casalito-Cristo (Fabian Leschke, Tönning), line 317A, won a 1.45-metre class in Mill Spring/Tryon (USA). Tomas Yofre (ARG) rides the gelding, who had previously competed on the course with Bertram and Harry Allen. Fourth place went to Singulon by Singulord Joter-Clinton I (Duka Invest D.O.O.), line 18A2, and Samuel Parot (CHI).
Eventing
In the German Junior Eventing Championships, Castagnola by Contender-Lancer II and Carla Hanser galloped to the bronze medal. The mare from line 5721 was bred by Thomas May from Düsseldorf and has enjoyed international success up to three-star level.
