These two are a perfect match! Coolio and Marcus Ehning were already in superb form at the Aachen Grand Prix, and the rider was delighted at how well he and the Casalito-Quidam de Revel son (Martina Wirtz, Hohenzieritz), line 2067, had gelled over the past year. Now they have taken second place in the 1.60-metre Grand Prix at the Global Champions Tour leg in Riesenbeck. Coolio had once begun his career as a Holsteiner auction foal in Elmshorn, before going on to enjoy great success with Marcel Marschall – progressing from young horse classes right through to his first 1.60-metre competitions – before top rider Marcus Ehning took notice of him!
Earlier, a pair that has been among Germany’s finest combinations for years had shone in the competition’s second GCT class: Limbridge by Limbus-Cambridge (Ralf Pawlowski, Heidenheim), line 741, and Jana Wargers had finished second in the 1.60-metre show jumping.
David Will brought a highly promising young horse with him to the Youngster Tour in Riesenbeck: namely, the Million Dollar-Zinedine son Monte Cristo (Jens Thormählen, Großenkneten), line 8769. The pair triumphed in the Tour’s 1.45-metre final. Riding the seven-year-old, he had already won Youngster classes in Hagen and Dettighofen-Albführen, having taken over the gelding from Sophie Hinners at the start of the year. Hannes Ahlmann took sixth place in the Youngster Tour final with Casanderos by Cascadello I-Quidam’s Rubin (Hartut Bruns, Aurich), line 776.
In a 1.45-metre show jumping class, Casallco by Casall-Contender (Frans Vrenken/NED), line 8798, took second place with Philip Rüping. Cornela, ridden by Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, followed in fourth place. The grey mare by Cornet Obolensky-Caretino (line 4847) comes from the family’s own breeding programme; her sire, Friedrich Meyer from Nottfeld, is responsible for Cornela.
At the German U25 Championships for young show jumpers, two riders on Holsteiner horses made it onto the podium: Hannes Ahlmann and Tokyo by Toulon-Cassini I (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492. Bronze went to last year’s winner, Mylen Kruse, and Lovelight/Loveless by Lord-Lordship (Michael Eitel, Freihung), line 18A2.
