Whilst the Al Shira’aa National Championships were the focus of attention within the equestrian community here in Germany last weekend, there were numerous Holsteiner victories and other top results to celebrate on the international stage:
In a challenging 1.60-metre show jumping class, Richard Vogel triumphed with his Casall son Cloudio (MV. Cassini I): Riding the grey, bred by Heike Arendt (Sollwitt), line 5889, he was one of just seven pairs out of around 60 entrants to qualify for the jump-off – and left the competition trailing behind. The German team lacked that little bit of luck in the Nations Cup; Richard Vogel and Cloudio also had to contend with a knockdown – yet they still secured second place with the team, behind the British.
After a brief break due to injury, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann made an immediate and successful return to competition: riding Iron Dames High Level by Livello-King Milford xx (Jens Hauschildt, Seester), line 95, the rider won the Grand Prix in Peelbergen (NED). Kannandillo by Kannan-Candillo (Nicole Hanneken, Rhede) and Harry Charles finished fourth here.
Mathies Rüder will remember this weekend for a long time to come. Riding Flora V by Cascadello I-Acobat II (Jan Verhagen/NED), line 1859, the 19-year-old won his first World Ranking show jumping competition in Wierzbna, Poland. “Thank you, Flora. She really fought for me in the jump-off today,” said the rider from Fehmarn after the 1.45-metre course.
It wasn’t just at Spruce Meadows; there was also a Nations Cup on the cards in Avenches. Specifically, the final of the EEF Series, in which Hannes Ahlmann and Cayadino by Cayado-Quick Fire (Ulrich Rodde, Strande), line 162, played a decisive role. Two flawless rounds ensured that the German team, despite the earlier mistakes made by his teammates, moved back up to a promising position and ultimately finished third.
