The World Equestrian Festival – the entire equestrian world had its eyes on Aachen last weekend, where Holsteiner horses once again put on a masterful display.
Right at the start of the weekend, there was a Holsteiner winning pair to celebrate in the U25 Show Jumping Cup organised by the German Equestrian Foundation and Holger Hetzel: Gasira by Casalito-Cassaro (Karl Heinz Clausen, Arlewatt), line 5964, and Tjade Carstensen left the competition trailing in the 1.50-metre show jumping class with a jump-off. “It’s indescribable,” said Tjade Carstensen. “It’s my first time competing at the CHIO and I’m incredibly proud of my horse.” In second place came another successful pair from Holstein: Coquetto by Cornet Obolensky-Casquetto (Witt Pferdezucht GbR), line 2067, and Hannes Ahlmann.
Myla and Kent Farrington were unbeatable in the Prix d’Europe: they were the last pair to take to the hallowed turf in the jump-off and left it as winners of the 1.60-metre show jumping class. Myla is a daughter of Crunch out of a Quadros dam (Norbert Scheel, Duvenstedt), line 7369, and is ridden by Kent Farrington. She changed hands as a three-year-old at a Holsteiner auction, competed in only a few international young horse classes under Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) and has been excelling since the start of last year under Kent Farrington (USA), for example with a second place in the Grand Prix at the Paris Global Champions Tour. Cloudio by Casall-Cassini I and Richard Vogel jumped to an excellent fourth place in this class. The grey was bred by Heike Arendt from Sollwitt and belongs to line 5889.
She followed the traditional route into the sport via the Bundeschampionate – ridden at the time by Hendrik Dowe – and is now enjoying international success with the Brazilian Yuri Mansur: Clariquada T by Clarimo-Coronado I (Manfred Tummes, Mühlheim), line 4539, is not only the half-sister of Hans-Dieter Dreher’s Elysium, but is herself competing at a high level. In Aachen on Sunday morning, the grey mare won the 1.45-metre class.
He was sold at the Holsteiner Auction in 2014 and has now galloped to victory in the cross-country event in Aachen. Vitali by Contender-Heraldik xx (Günther Fielmann, Schierensee), line 3317, once again brought a smile to the face of his New Zealand rider, Tim Price, this weekend. He not only secured him the individual victory but also team gold in the Nations Cup for New Zealand.
Another Holsteiner took fifth place: Commando, a son of Connor-Amigo xx, line 268. Joachim Siebke from Thumby is responsible for the horse’s breeding, and in the saddle was the American Boyd Martin, who had taken over the gelding from Louise Romeike (SWE).
Not ‘just’ in Aachen…
…but also in Monaco, where Holsteiner horses promoted their breeding association at the weekend: In the Longines Grand Prix of Monaco in Monte Carlo, Zuccero HV by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, and Maximilian Weishaupt took fourth place.
