Show jumper Michael Kölz, based in Leißnig, Saxony, has secured victory in the Grand Prix at the Redefin Horse Festival. He rode Cellato (Jörn Kusel, Visselhövede), a son of Cellestial-Calato, line 318D2. The pair completed the first clear round in the main round of the World Ranking competition and, as the first starters in the jump-off, delivered an equally fast and clear round. Normally, the horse’s owner, Dirk Wellmann, rides the gelding himself – Kölz only rides him once a week. Michael Kölz has known Cellato for a year and a half and emphasised that the Grand Prix at the Redefin Horse Festival was actually only their second major competition. Devito by Diarado-Cracker Jack (Willy Lührs, Neumünster), line 318D1, took fourth place with Sven Gero Hünicke (GER).
The Maimarkt Competition in Mannheim offered an interesting programme of classes, in which several Holstein horses were able to shine: In the Youngster Tour for horses up to eight years old over 1.40 metres, the Quintero-Clearway son Quincy (Hobe Magens, Ottenbüttel), line 8769, took victory with Mary-Ann Fuchs (GER) in the saddle. In second place came Chasseur en Blanc by Clearway-Zeus (Gerhard Hügenell, Freinsheim), another horse with Holsteiner pedigree. Dominique Michelle Weber (GER) was in the saddle. Fourth place went to Con Quisada RB by Quarz-Lasino (ZG Bröcking, Borken), line 2554, who was also presented by Dominique Michelle Weber.
Happy Hour by Crunch-Quadros (Norbert Scheel), line 7369, was sold at a Holsteiner auction in 2019 and is now well on the way to pursuing an international show jumping career. The eight-year-old finished in the top five twice in the Youngster jumping classes in Mannheim with Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP).
In a two-phase show jumping competition over 1.45 metres, Sophie Hinners (GER) rode New Classic S, a daughter of Nabab de Reve-Lux from line 4025, to victory. The mare was bred by Julius-Peter Sinnack (Bocholt) and is the half-sister of Zypria S by Canturo (Willem Greve/NED/Sophie Hinners/GER), who has enjoyed success at the very highest international level, as well as Richard Vogel’s (GER)’s World Cup stage winner United Touch S.
Eventing
At the five-star event in Badminton (GBR), competitors faced challenging conditions due to heavy rainfall. This did not detract from the performance of the former Holsteiner auction horse Vitali by Contender-Heraldik xx (Günther Fielmann, Schierensee), line 3317, and Tim Price (NZL). They finished the demanding competition in an excellent seventh place.
