The VR Classics at the Holstenhallen are among the best-known traditional show jumping competitions in the north and celebrated their 75th anniversary last weekend. Numerous Holstein horses and their riders took centre stage here, with Cascadino proving the best of them in the Grand Prix over 1.55 metres.
Cascadino is a son of Cartani out of a Lacros dam (Johann H. Witt, Neuendeich) and represents line 306. With Romy Rosalie Tietje in the saddle, the bay has already enjoyed some success amongst the next generation of show jumpers, winning bronze at the German Youth Championships, for example. Now, 21-year-old Romy Rosalie Tietje has made the leap to tackling very difficult challenges. In Neumünster, she made her debut at the 1.55-metre level and then went straight on to compete in the Grand Prix. She was beaming from ear to ear when she rode a clear round with her successful horse in both the first and second rounds – securing fourth place in the final standings. “I’ve had Cascadino for seven years and he’s never put a foot wrong,” said the proud rider after the show jumping. “I can always rely on him 110 per cent. He’s very cautious, but just as brave. That means you can really push him a bit, especially at that height,” she smiled.
Two Holsteiners also took fifth and sixth places: the nine-year-old Dumbo by Diamant de Semilly-Casall (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 223B1, with Linn Hamann in fifth place. And followed by Leviathan HS by Livello–Casall (Jan Herbert Detjens), line 741, ridden by Lars Bak Andersen for Hyperion Stud in the USA.
In Ocala (USA), a Holsteiner – a horse likely familiar to many enthusiasts – won his first two-star Grand Prix: Cardentos by Cardento-Quo Vados I (Witt Pferdezucht GbR, Wellinghusen), line 776, was managed as a young stallion via the Holsteiner Verband’s stallion programme, presented at the show by Marten and Alexandra Witt, and is now based at Richard Vogel’s stables. This new partnership had already won a 1.40-metre show jumping class in Wellington just a few weeks ago.
