There was plenty of action on the international show jumping circuit last weekend. In Dinard (FRA), Carissimo by Cascadello I-Clinton I (Sport A Media, SLO-Vinicne), line 2666, triumphed in the prestigious 1.60-metre Grand Prix. With American rider Aaron Vale in the saddle, the Holsteiner added €125,000 in prize money to his tally. It was the pair’s first victory at this level. Sophie Hinners also enjoyed great success in Dinard, France, with two Holsteiners. Riding Munin by Mylord Carthago–Chin Chin (Michael Eitel, Freihung), the rising German star won the local Derby as well as another 1.50-metre show jumping class. She also entered Iron Dames Uriel by Uriko-Cormint (Jan Kai Hansen, Wiemerstedt), line 7299, into the competition. The seven-year-old went on to win two classes on the Youngster Tour, including the final.
At the same time, the German team competed in the Nations Cup at the CSIO5* competition in Hickstead. With two clear rounds each, Marco Kutscher and Catelly by Catalido-Ephebe for ever (Wulf-Hinrich Hamann, Ammersbek), line 242, and Rene Dittmer and Corsica X by Connor-Corofino II (Erich Westphal, Sipsdorf), line 4564, each with two double-clear rounds, played a key role in the Germans’ victory. “Corsica completed two clear rounds, so I’m very pleased. I really like large grass arenas and old, traditional competitions – they’re my favourites – and my horse always jumps well on large grass arenas,” said a satisfied Rene Dittmer afterwards. In addition, Donald Whitaker (GBR) and Di Caprio by Diarado-Cassini I (Harm Carsten, Rastede), line 1752, took fourth place in the prestigious King George V Gold Cup, a 1.60-metre Grand Prix.
Eventing
At the Nations Cup in Avenches (CCIO4*-S), the host Swiss eventing team proved unbeatable both collectively and in the individual classifications. Felix Vogg (SUI) won the individual classification with his experienced Holsteiner mare Cartania by Cartani-Clinton I (Günter Koch, Vollewieck), line 2895, with just 31.1 penalty points.
