Callias v. Companiero-Casco (Sven and Lothar Völz, Wöhrden), Stamm 730B, and Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (ESP) in Vejer de la Frontera under the Spanish sun.
Amsterdam and Darragh Kenny (IRL) also rounded off the weekend with a victory in a 1.60-metre class: the pair were competing in Ocala, Florida (USA). Amsterdam by Catoki-Acord II was bred by Sönke Petersen of Behrendorf and had already competed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN). The former Holsteiner auction horse Callas by Casall-Coriano (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492, and McLain Ward came second, whilst third place went to Carissimo (Sport a Media S.R.0./SLO), a son of Cascadello I out of Clinton I, line 2666, with Aaron Vale (USA).
Mario Deslauriers (CAN) was once again able to rely on the Clarimo daughter Bardolina (MV. Landos I) in Wellington: The mare, bred by Ute Jürgensen (Sehestedt), line 671, secured him second place in the 1.60-metre Grand Prix. Third place went to Cartier SR by Canturenter-Cassini I (Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 4705, ridden by Nina Mallevaey (FRA).
Camilla van de Helle is a daughter of L.B. Crumble, and her dam, by Casall, produced, amongst others, Saratoga by Chin Champ (Alise Oken/USA), who enjoyed success in 1.60-metre show jumping. Camilla van de Helle was bred by Klaus Thiedemenann (Oesterwurth), line 2543, and won the 1.45-metre Grand Prix in Lier (BEL) with Kevin Jochems (NED).
The Dutch rider Michael Greeve won the 1.45-metre show jumping class in Riesenbeck with Denver by Diarado-Quantum (Pamela Peters, Bargenstedt), line 2067. The gelding was originally introduced to international competitions in Germany by Maximilian Lill and enjoyed great success this winter in Vejer de la Frontera (ESP) at 1.55-metre level. Second place in Riesenbeck went to another Holstein mare, Flower Girl. She is by Hickstead-Catoki and was bred by Michal Szadkowski, line 628B. Marcus Ehning (GER) rode the mare to second place. Catdaddy by Cascadello I–Quidam de Revel (Gerd Ohlsen, Oevenum), line 95, and Jennifer Pedersen (DEN) finished fourth.
Eventing
The eventing riders kicked off their season in Luhmühlen, and right from the start Timmo by Timolino xx–Carlos D (Ole Lehmann, Grästen), line 6042, and Nicolai Aldinger shone, taking second place in the three-star short class – a good start to the 2024 Olympic year, for which the pair have a clear goal in mind.
