Holsteiner Horse Days: Sport, Mares, Stars of Today and Tomorrow

The programme is as varied as it is fascinating: the Holsteiner Horse Days, taking place from 13 to 16 June 2024 in Elmshorn, bring together riders, breeders and enthusiasts of the Holsteiner horse. Whether it’s the state championships for dressage and show jumping horses, competitions up to the advanced class, foal and riding horse auctions, the association’s mare show or even a volleyball competition – a visit to Elmshorn is definitely worthwhile.

Dressage Thursday, show jumping kicks off on Friday
On Thursday 13 June, the event gets underway with the dressage classes. From 9 am, the National Championship qualifiers and the state championships for five- and six-year-old dressage horses will take place. In the evening, there will be high-level competition in the dressage arena. On Friday 14 June, the first qualifiers for the show jumping athletes will take place. At 4.00 pm, the presentation of the lots for the riding horse auction will set the tone for the varied weekend, followed by an S* show jumping competition from 5.00 pm and the Welcome Evening afterwards.

State and Volleyball
Champions On Saturday morning (15 June), from 08:00, following exciting final competitions, the four- and seven-year-old state champions will be honoured, and at 11:30, the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz will host the auction foals, who will be presented live, before both riding horses and foals go under the hammer at 3.00 pm. After the evening is rounded off once again with challenging show jumping from 6.00 pm, the athletes will swap their riding breeches for shorts as they compete for glory, honour and high-quality prizes in the volleyball competition. Teams can still register for the competition: simply email the team name and the first names and surnames of the five members to Jessica Hatje (jhatje@holsteiner-verband.de ).

Sunday: Showing of the finest mares
On Sunday, 16 June, the Holsteiner mares will take centre stage: at the Association Mare Show, starting at 09:00, Holstein’s finest from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts will be selected. The ‘Holsteiner Mare of the Year’ award will also honour a particularly successful Holsteiner mare in breeding, who represents the intensively maintained mare stock of which Holsteiner breeders are rightly so proud. “We are looking forward to a genetically extremely diverse lot,” says breeding manager Stephan Haarhoff. “The 37 mares are by 31 different sires – ranging from young stallions to proven sires,” he says, looking forward to the show, at which he will judge alongside Horst Klaus-Heleine and Rasmus Lüneburg. Neel-Heinrich Schoof, breeding director of the Trakehner Association, has been secured as the event’s commentator. From 1.00 pm, the five-year-old show jumpers will compete for their state championships, followed by the six-year-olds from 3.00 pm.

Top genetics and athleticism at the auction
The lots for the foal and riding horse auction are already available at www.holsteiner.auction: 28 young talents have made it into the lot for this year’s foal auction. They are by Casall, Million Dollar, Keaton, Cahil, Charaktervoll, Ermitage Kalone, Chaccothage Blue, Chacfly, Diamant de Semilly and many other sought-after sires. In the riding horse lot, Head of Marketing Felix Flinzer is offering five show jumping prospects aged between four and six years, many of whom have already achieved top placings and victories in show jumping competitions. At the Holsteiner Horse Days, there will be no live stream so as not to detract from the on-site experience. All rides will be uploaded to the ClipMyHorse.tv media library afterwards. The presentations of the foals and riding horses, as well as the auction, will be broadcast live on ClipMyHorse.tv. Admission to the entire event is free!
