On Friday morning, the first state champions of 2023 were crowned at Herbert-Blöcker-Platz. In a Class L dressage test for five-year-olds, Sir Mystic EA by Sir Donnerhall-Fürst Heinrich (Elisabeth Christina Ahn-Ballies, Grebin) came out on top against the competition. With Laura Wilms in the saddle, the black gelding trotted to an overall score of 8.2 and was awarded the coveted oak wreath at the championship ceremony. The silver medal (7.7) was secured by Questore by Quantensprung out of Lorentin I (Claus-Heinrich Petersen, Ahrenviöl). Jan Lens had taken the reins on behalf of Gestüt Fohlenhof. Caramel by Caracho-Aljano (Sönke Wilhelm Thamling, Kollmar) took the bronze. Paula de Boer had ridden the bay mare, achieving a score of 7.5. Black Jack JG by Bon Coeur-Hofrat (Joana Graf, Bargfeldt-Stegen) led the way at the prize-giving ceremony for the State Championship for six-year-old dressage horses. Kaddur Kelkha rode the black stallion to a score of 7.8. In second place (7.5) was Fiorino Hit EA by Fürst Romancier-Licotus (Elisabeth Christina Ahn-Ballies, Grebin), ridden by Laura Wilms. The panel of judges – comprising Gabriele von Appen, Tanja Konopka and John Mc Cormack – awarded the bronze medal (7.5) to Belle de Jour by Bon Coeur-Lorentin I (Nicole Hägler, Leonberg), ridden by Christian Busse.
Saturday: Championships, Foal Auction, Birthday
On Saturday, the action on the course gets underway as early as 9.00 am, when the four-year-old show jumpers compete for the title of ‘State Champion’. This will be followed, from 11.00 am, by the championship for seven-year-olds. At 1.00 pm, 21 promising young horses will trot onto the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz for the presentation of the Holsteiner foal auction. The auction itself begins at 4.30 pm in a hybrid format. The lot features offspring of both established sires such as Casall, Clarimo and Zirocco Blue, as well as up-and-coming stallions such as Keaton and Charaktervoll, and the 2021 Holsteiner Champion Stallion, Esmeraldo. Before the foals go under the hammer, the six-year-old show jumpers will have the chance to prove themselves in the qualifiers for the State Championships at 2.00 pm. Afterwards, a stallion who once enjoyed international success with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and has become an integral part of the Holstein sire line-up will make his grand entrance: the Clearway son Clarimo is celebrating his 20th birthday. At 6.45 pm, the S** show jumping class with a jump-off will take place to decide the winner and placings. Afterwards, the footballers will take to the Ebbe-Flut pitch for ‘Kickers meet Holstein’, creating the perfect atmosphere for lingering a little longer in Elmshorn in good company and with stimulating conversation.
