The inaugural Holsteiner Autumn Event is now history. And in the end, everyone involved agreed: it was a resounding success. Twenty stallions underwent their short aptitude test, and four left the Fritz-Thiedemann-Halle with a positive licensing verdict. During the Elite Auction, 31 horses ultimately changed hands. Cascano E by Cascadello I-Cancara (Gerd Eggers, Stadum) topped the price list, selling for 73,000 euros.
“The concept has been a complete success,” said a visibly satisfied Stephan Haarhoff following the licensing decisions. “This pilot project is a win-win for both the horses and the breeders. The stallions have one fewer test to complete, whilst the breeders gain further important insights into the sires,” said the breeding director of the Holsteiner Verband.
Four stallions approved
Four stallions were awarded the coveted ‘Kör’ status today. The three-year-old Cultino by Casaltino-Colman, bred and owned by Evi Bengtsson (Itzehoe), impressed the commission with his boundless potential over jumps, a very modern style and excellent lines. A textbook example of a sport horse, which also excelled in the short aptitude test with a weighted final mark of 8.58, with a focus on jumping. This charming chestnut gelding comes from line 6786 and is sired by the breeder’s successful mare, Kuschel’s Ulika. Quivisto by Quim CL-Leovisto, who received spontaneous applause from the audience during his free jumping display, bred and owned by Carsten Lauck (Pinneberg), was also licensed. The grey from line 6691 has a very special great-granddam, namely Zivia by Calypso II, who ranks among the most successful broodmares of all time. The other two approved stallions were presented by the Witt family from Wellinghusen. One of these is the four-year-old Dunkirk by Dinken-Catoki (line 741), who was born at Sönke Petersen’s stud in Behrendorf. Alexandra Witt presented this powerful youngster, who impressed not only with three good basic gaits but also with very good rideability and plenty of ability. And then there was Candid by Casall-Cardento, whom Stephan Haarhoff described as the “highlight of the day”. As he became increasingly supple, the four-year-old improved significantly over the course of the test days, concluding his short VA with a score of 8.38 and also being approved. The highest weighted, jumping-focused final mark in the short VA went to Deventer by Dinken-Caretino (Hans-Hermann Gericke, Tönning), who had already been licensed in Neumünster in November 2021 and was ridden by Dirk Ahlmann. With a 9.2 for rideability and a 9.0 for willingness to perform, he achieved a weighted final mark of 8.63, with an emphasis on jumping.
Highly Sought-After Three-Year-Olds
Felix Flinzer, the new managing director of Vermarktungs und Auktions GmbH, was very satisfied with the outcome of his first Holsteiner auction: “An exceptionally high sales rate and particularly sought-after three-year-olds characterised this year’s Elite Riding Horse Auction.” Following Cascano E, the Del Arko d’Henvet-Connor daughter – also aged three – from the breeding stable of Niko Detlef (Fehmarn) aroused great interest among buyers and sold for 65,000 euros. Bojangles by Brantzau-Clarimo, bred by Annika Laß of Leck, changed hands to an Italian buyer for 57,000 euros. Two further horses also broke the 50,000-euro mark. One was La Douce by Million Dollar (Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs, Bokel). The other was the dressage stallion Valentino by Vitalis-De Niro (Hans-Peter Petersen, Tating). On average, buyers bid 32,200 euros per horse. “We were able to sell many horses today at balanced prices, thereby satisfying both exhibitors and buyers alike,” summarised Felix Flinzer.
