The Holsteiner of the Month is a horse that has been a household name to attentive followers of national and international show jumping for years. We are talking about Elysium, who initially competed with Hendrik Dowe under the name Ziroquado T before Hans-Dieter Dreher got into the saddle of the large-framed gelding in 2020. In this case, the T stands for the surname of his breeder, namely the late Manfred Tummes from Mülheim an der Ruhr. He paired his successful mare Riquada by Coronado-Quidam de Revel from lineage 4539, which traces directly back to the Chin Chin dam Larese, with Zirocco Blue, resulting in the birth of Elysium. Riquada also produced two 1.50-metre show jumpers with Clariquada T by Clarimo (Yuri Mansur/BRA) and Coroquada T by Contender (Karin Ernsting, Torben Köhlbrandt). With Hendrik Dowe, who has also brought several siblings of Elysium into the sport, the grey born in 2012 jumped into the final of the Bundeschampionat twice and established himself on the youngster tour.
"Hansi" Dreher has been riding Elysium for several years now – and with great success. In the past season, for example, the pair finished among the top three in Amsterdam (NED), Hamburg (GER) and Spruce Meadows (CAN). In Barcelona, Spain, the two were part of the outstanding German winning team in the Nations Cup Final. The grey had shone with clear performances throughout the entire competition. Right at the start, Hans-Dieter Dreher praised his sport partner: "I had a super feeling! Elysium jumped abnormally well."
