Anyone who follows international show jumping closely will have come across the name Darc de Lux quite frequently in recent years. Andreas Schou and the Holsteiner Darc de Lux represented Denmark at the European Championships in Riesenbeck, at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and also at last year’s World Championships in Herning. However, the pair have now celebrated what is arguably their greatest success to date at a championship at the World Cup Final in Omaha, where they finished in fifth place.
Much of this success is down to the Contender-Cor de la Bryere mare Ordelia from line 1094, whom Morten Augustinus once purchased from Ernst Karl in Westerhorn on the recommendation of Jochen Asbahs. Ordelia has produced numerous outstanding horses for the Danish breeder; in addition to Darc de Lux by Darco, who is just twelve years old, she is also the dam of the two licensed stallions Pikeur Quick Fire by Quintero (Markus Brinkmann/GER) and Cornet de Lux by Cornet Obolensky. The 2023 World Cup Final is likely to remain in the memories of both the breeder, Morten Augustinus, and the rider, Andreas Schou, for a long time to come. After the first two rounds, Schou and the Holsteiner went into the final of the unofficial Indoor World Championships in the lead. And even though the pair were unable to hold on to the top spot, there was great delight at finishing fifth in the end: “Darc de Lux came fifth in the World Cup Final. So close to the podium – I’m very proud of him,” said the rider afterwards.
